At long last, the end begins.

In northern Ravine, Faux Dezdes has a comfortable life. Farm work fills his days, but he's happy to provide for his family, who survived the destruction of their hometown years prior. Faux's world, however, is once again upended the night a monster finds him. He then meets two strangers, Persephone and Ollinair, who are tasked with taking him across the continent. Neither Faux nor his protectors know the reason why.

Along the journey, Faux discovers that his guides have another mission: to locate the Potentialists, magic-wielders of legend. Their powers may help win an upcoming war, and a queen's aid could facilitate the arduous search. But before the trio can reach Her Majesty, Faux will need to be kept safe from a Potentialist eager to prove himself. The race to Valljavin will unravel truths. How is Faux's tragic past tied to a stirring evil? What choices will he make in light of the answer?
